•  "America's Founding Fathers, under George Washington's leadership, drew deeply upon Judeo-Christian roots and concepts of duty among Colonists of every belief, race and nation. The seriousness of this commitment pervades the language of the  Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with its Bill of Rights which followed in 1791. The Bible illumined the way to liberty and its rewards of prosperity and happiness in the new republic, one nation under God.
  • Embracing the Bible's scriptural principles as a blueprint for human development, the Founders inspired people of the thirteen colonies to rise to the heights of fortitude and courage. The United States remains one nation under God, the "Lord and Ruler of all Nations", with liberty and justice for all.
  • The nation's freedom will endure only as long as its citizens sustain it. America's system of government is the child of wisdom and the ward of vigilance. George Washington's tested supernatural faith in God's "Superintending Power" is his finest bequest to us."

The above paragraphs are excerpts from the book "The Spiritual Journey of George Washington", by Janice T. Connell (from page XXIV of the Introduction and pages 132 and 133). This great book, highly recommended by Retired U.S. Major General Pat Brady (who called it a "must read") and others, was published in 2013. It proudly states, "Made in the U.S.A.".

Introduction: The Government's Responsibility, under The U.S. Constitution

In the form in which the U.S.A. was founded, all three branches of the federal government are bound to comply with the requirements of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, granting rights to all persons, regardless of race, sex or age. Science has now shown that unborn babies are persons, from the moment of conception. (Refer to Medical /Science - Life Before Birth section.) This is supported by legal reasoning from the Constitution. (Refer to Alan Keyes - The Constitution proves every fetus is a person on the Renew America website). This confirms what is stated in the Bible's Old Testament and New Testament. (Refer to What does the Bible teach about abortion section.) Therefore, the unborn have the rights of all persons, particularly the right to life that is stated as an "inalienable right" in the Declaration of Independence.

This right to life of the unborn must be upheld by all three branches, the Executive (the President and his administration), the Congress (Senate and House of Representatives) and the Supreme Court. As our government is "of the people, by the people and for the people", anyone seeking political office to serve his or her fellow citizens needs to honor this right of the unborn.

In the following sections, we explore how the political parties and candidates align themselves in regard to this fundamental right. Select a tab to be directed to the sections below:

The Trump/Pence Administration's Position and Actions

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo affirms abortion ‘isn’t a human right’
Speaking at the Family Leadership Summit in Des Moines, Iowa, last week, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo iterated the Trump administration’s pro-life position, telling the audience that the administration continues to oppose international abortion groups’ efforts to declare abortion a human right.
Abortion quite simply isn’t a human right,” Pompeo said. He added, “It takes a life,” and said “this administration appreciates and knows that our rights come from God, not government.”
Pompeo argued, “America sets the tone for the rest of the world in this respect, and our administration has defended the rights of unborn like no other administration in history.” Pompeo touted the administration’s “100% pro-life foreign policy,” which includes reinstating the Mexico City policy, which means, Pompeo said, “not a single dime of American taxpayer money will ever go to a foreign NGO that performs active abortions anywhere in the world.”

In addition to combatting attempts to define abortion as a human right, Pompeo has also called out nations committing human rights abuses through forced abortion. Recently, Pompeo strongly condemned the ongoing atrocity of forced abortion in China following a recent report, calling the revelations “horrifying.” Pompeo said China’s record shows “an utter disregard for the sanctity of human life and basic human dignity.

Advice of Catholic Bishop Athanasius Schneider: "Put God Back In Charge"

Before we evaluate the presidential candidates and political parties, we need a benchmark or "Gold Standard" as a measuring stick: A recent book by Bishop Athanasius Schneider Christus Vincit provides the perfect "ruler" for measuring, as will be seen below:
As is documented in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, our nation’s founding fathers placed God above government. This, in fact was essential to their claim that they had the right to break away from the rule of the King of England and create a new nation, establishing a form of government that, in world history, was a revolutionary, life-changing breakthrough, an experiment never tried before. This was possible because, at that time, the American colonists were God-fearing Christians. These original patriots risked their lives because they believed they were doing God's will in taking up arms and fighting against the British.
A government’s job is to ensure that a nation’s citizens are able to go about their lives in safety, with certain rights, which requires that there be an organized civilization. The Declaration of Independence states that citizens’ rights are “endowed by their Creator” and “inalienable”.
In his 2019 book, Christus Vincit (“Christ conquers”), Bishop Athanasius Schneider diagnoses what is wrong in today's society - and what is required to get it back on the right track. His perception is perfectly aligned with that of America's founding fathers and so we can learn from it and apply it.
Bishop Schneider states that when people abandon God and ignore a nation's laws, the result is chaos, violence and ugliness. Thus, he accurately predicted the anarchy, chaos, violence and looting that erupted in American cities in June, 2020 (after the May 25th death of George Floyd). We quote from his book because he points out that an early warning sign of the eruption of this lawlessness, chaos and violence is a nation's prior acceptance of mass violence to the unborn, the killing of babies in their mothers' wombs.  The following content is copied from pages 51 to 55 of Christus Vincit:
“Civilization” comes from the Latin, civis, citizen – it means citizens creating a civitas a city. In a city or nation, there has to be order, law, beauty, hierarchy. Without these, there is no city – or nation – only anarchy and chaos. When you eliminate the laws of God, either in the natural law, which is written by God, or in the supernatural law, in the divine revelation of Holy Scripture you begin to dismantle this beautiful city  (or nation), and then chaos ensues in the private and public sphere.
Civilization is only possible according to the law of God, either natural or supernatural. This implies that God is the ultimate lawgiver, not man
We have to return to an esteem and observance of the natural law and from there build a civilization as a first step. European society is no longer a civilization. It has no civilization because they have divorced themselves from natural law and divine revelation. The current European so-called civilization represents ugliness, chaos and cruelty. How can you speak of civilization when you are perpetrating a mass genocide of innocent people in the wombs of their mothers, which is extremely cruel and whose extent has never existed in all of human history – killing innocent people, your own babies on a mass scale? For me, the existence of abortion in society is already an indication that there is no real civilization. True civilization is destroyed through the promotion of immorality, through the destruction of the family. This is because a family is a little city, and when you destroy the miniature, you destroy the real city, and then the entire civilization.
"Like destroying cells in the body" (Diane Montagna, interviewing the Bishop)
Exactly. We have to restore the family* – which is, according to natural law, a husband and wife and their children. As Christian European civilization collapses, it is being replaced with cold technology.  Pure technology is spiritually cold and therefore people are not happy, they are empty, they are continuously seeking pleasures to escape the inner void. To avoid the ugliness, the insanity, people are running after new pleasures, new technologies, and they become in their souls cold, egoistic and cruel.
We must restore civilization by restoring the natural law and the natural family*. Then we need to restore Christ the King to society. This would be the most beautiful society, where Christ is reigning as King of the society.
Today it is commonly thought that we must separate church and state and that religion has no place in politics. (Dianne Montagna, interviewing the Bishop)
This idea is an illusion, because when religion has no place in politics, then politics has no measure and no orientation. Then politics and the State become a kind of god. It will then go astray from the wisdom and  law of God. The relationship between the Church and the political and human society is analogous to the relationship between the soul and the body. The Church represents the eternal and supernatural, thus she represents the soul. You cannot separate the soul from the body; you would then have a corpse. Therefore, a human political society will not have true progress and prosperity if it bans the influence and reign of Christ over it. This is our situation. Without Christ the King, human society in time becomes morally and spiritually a corpse, because of the absence of its soul.
We have to create Catholic, Christian families and they have to penetrate slowly into once again into political, social, and cultural life. We have to rebuild our Christian culture. We have this challenge and duty to restore civilization and the reign of Christ in our families in our society. This is our Christian mission.
The paragraphs above are from the highly recommended book, Christus Vincit, Christus Vincit, Christ’s Triumph Over the Darkness of the Age, by Bishop Athanasius Schneider, in conversation with Diane Montagna. Published in the U.S.A. by Angelico Press, 2019.

President Trump’s Historic Speech at The National March For Life, January 24, 2020

Here are excerpts from President Trump's speech:

It is my profound honor to be the first President in history to attend the March for Life. We’re here for a very simple reason, to defend the right of every child born and unborn, to fulfill their God-given potential.”
• “Unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House. And from the first day in office, I’ve taken historic action to support America’s families and to protect the unborn.”
“All of us here today understand an eternal truth, every child is a precious and sacred gift from God. Together we must protect, cherish, and defend the dignity and the sanctity of every human life."
“When we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse at the majesty of God’s creation. When we hold a newborn in our arms, we know the endless love that each child brings to a family. When we watch a child grow, we see the splendor that radiates from each human soul. One life changes the world.”
• “The life movement is led by strong women, amazing faith leaders, and brave students who carry on the legacy of pioneers before us who fought to raise the conscience of our nation and uphold the rights of our citizens. You embrace mothers with care and compassion. You are powered by prayer and motivated by pure, unselfish love.”
• “We cannot know what our citizens yet unborn will achieve, the dreams they will imagine, the masterpieces they will create, the discoveries they will make. But we know this… Every person is worth protecting. And above all, we know that every human soul is divine and every human life, born and unborn, is made in the holy image of Almighty God.

DNC Chair Declares There Is No Place For Pro-Life Democrats In Today’s Party

 April 23, 2017:

Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez became the first head of the party to demand ideological purity on abortion rights, promising Friday to support only Democratic candidates who back a woman’s right to choose.

“Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health,” Perez said in a statement. “That is not negotiable and should not change city by city or state by state.”

“At a time when women’s rights are under assault from the White House, the Republican Congress, and in states across the country,” he added, “we must speak up for this principle as loudly as ever and with one voice.”

In brief, the Democratic Party considers abortion, i.e., the killing of an unborn baby,  to be "reproductive health care" that is the mother's "right" at any age of the baby until birth and, further, that taxpayers should subsidize this. Joe Biden has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood, the abortion provider. For more related information, link here to  Joe Biden on Abortion .

Cardinal Dolan praises Trump's Leadership and Solicitude for Catholic Schools, Charities and Health Care
April 27, 2020
New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan appeared on Fox News on Monday, making the case that Catholic schools and nonprofits are in need of financial assistance and praising President Trump for his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic.
I really salute his leadership, Cardinal Dolan said on “Fox & Friends,“Everybody has really come through, but the president has seemed particularly sensitive to the, what shall I say, to the feelings of the religious community.
The cardinal’s appearance on Fox News follows a weekend during which he praised the president on a conference call hosted by the White House with 600 other Catholic leaders and then prayed for Mr. Trump during a live-streamed Sunday Mass from Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
On April 25, Cardinal Dolan, along with Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, joined a conference call with President Trump that was to (address) Catholic education, the Catholic news site Crux reported. But the president pivoted to talk about abortion and the November election..." reported Crux, which obtained an audio recording of the call. Mr. Trump called Cardinal Dolan “a great friend of mine” and the cardinal said in reply, “the feelings are mutual, sir.”
The cardinal was one of several religious figures to pray at Mr. Trump’s inauguration. On Saturday’s call, the cardinal joked that he talked with the president more than he chats with his own mother.
Building government support for Catholic schools has been a goal of Cardinal Dolan and other Catholic leaders for many years. In 2017, he wrote an op-ed column in The Wall Street Journal urging the president to “push Congress to make scholarship tax credits available to working-class families.” Cardinal Dolan had praise for the president during his appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Monday:  The cardinal said Catholic schools faced an uncertain future because of the coronavirus pandemic. He said he thought most of them would be stable through the end of this academic year but that he was unsure about their long-term prospects.

We’ve got heroic donors that have come through and we’ve got the promise of our leaders, and as I said, especially President Trump, who really showed a solicitude for Catholic schools, Catholic charities, Catholic health care,” Cardinal Dolan said. “Bravo.

Cardinal Dolan: Democratic Party abandons Catholics, favors abortion agenda
NEW YORK — March 23, 2018
The Democrats Abandon Catholics” reads the headline on a March 23 op-ed by Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan in The Wall Street Journal.
“I’m a pastor, not a politician, and I’ve certainly had spats and disappointments with politicians from both of America’s leading parties,” he wrote. “But it saddens me, and weakens the democracy millions of Americans cherish, when the party that once embraced Catholics now slams the door on us.
“The dignity and sanctity of human life, the importance of Catholic schools, the defense of a baby’s civil rights” are “widely embraced by Catholics,” he said.
A cause of sadness,” Cardinal Dolan said, is that “the needs of poor and middle-class children in Catholic schools, and the right to life of the baby in the womb have largely been rejected by the party of our youth.”
The once “big tent” of the Democratic Party “now seems a pup tent” as a party that Catholics once embraced has abandoned so many issues Catholics cherish, such as the sanctity of human life and religious education, said New York’s cardinal.

Cardinal Dolan pointed to the Democratic party favoring a radical abortion agenda over protecting the human rights of unborn children and all-out efforts to block education credits to help poor and low-income families access Catholic and other nonpublic schools.

Trump cancels fetal-research funding Affirms 'that this is a strongly pro-life administration'

June 5, 2019
After a nine-month review of all research involving fetal tissue harvested from elective abortions, the Trump administration has canceled a contract that provides government funding to the University of California, San Francisco.
An Administration official explained the move is part of "a consistent charge to take a pro-life perspective on all policies."
The decision to cancel the UCSF contract was made at the president's direction, a senior official told the Daily Caller, noting it was a source of tension with top Health and Human Services (HHS) Department officials. This was a decision by the president to affirm that this is a strongly pro-life administration, coming after months of frustration that the gruesome practice hadn’t been ended already by the agency," the official said.
Governing funding of fetal-tissue research was banned in 1988. But during the Clinton administration, Congress lifted the ban and voted for government funding.
The HHS is considering research alternatives such as stem cells from cord blood and fetal tissue procured after accidents.

President Donald Trump urged the pro-life movement to remain united in the face of opposition from the radical left, restating his own pro-life position.

May 19 2019
“We have come very far in the last two years with 105 wonderful new Federal Judges (many more to come), two great new Supreme Court Justices, the Mexico City Policy, and a whole new & positive attitude about the Right to Life,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Trump addressed the pro-life movement after a bill protecting unborn children after six weeks was signed in Alabama, prompting a storm of outrage from the left.
“The Radical Left, with late-term abortion (and worse), is imploding on this issue. We must stick together and Win for Life in 2020,” President Trump wrote. “If we are foolish and do not stay UNITED as one, all of our hard fought gains for Life can, and will, rapidly disappear!”

Joe Biden's New Position on Abortion

Joe Biden Betrays His Fellow Catholics

The title above and the content below is copied from a March 16, 2020 article in Crisis Magazine by Dr. Paul Kengor, Professor of Political Science at Grove City University, addressing Joe Biden's surprise sudden reversal of his previous support of the Hyde Amendment.

("The Hyde Amendment effectively prevents federal funding from being used to pay for abortions—with very limited exceptions—via any programs that are administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).The amendment, sponsored by Rep. Henry Hyde (R, Illinois), was enacted in 1976, and although it has never become a permanent law, Congress has renewed it annually for the last four decades, attaching it as a rider to HHS appropriations bills." - verywellhealth.com)

The following is copied from Paul Kengor's article, "Joe Biden Betrays His Fellow Catholics":

Biden allowed an angry, sobbing Elizabeth Warren and fellow fringe abortion activists to browbeat him into reversing himself on the Hyde Amendment last summer. To wit: In June, in Atlanta, under enormous pressure from the likes of Senator Warren, Senator Kamala Harris, and the rabidly “pro-choice” liberal base, Biden—already deemed the Democrat presidential frontrunner for 2020—said: “For many years (since 1970) as a U.S. senator, I have supported the Hyde Amendment as many, many others have because there was sufficient monies and circumstances where women were able to exercise that right [to abortion], women of color, poor women, women were not able to have access…. But circumstances have changed. I can’t justify leaving millions of women without access to the care they need and their ability to exercise their constitutionally protected right.

Pause and think carefully about what Joe Biden effectively said: ... He announced that he was reversing a four-decades-long position for the explicit purpose of “women of color, poor women” getting taxpayer-funded abortions. He was flipping so that minority women, and especially poor ones, could get free abortions, paid for by the public purse. He wanted to ensure they weren’t left behind and that money wouldn’t be an issue. He would strive to remove every obstacle to women of color aborting children of color.

Can you imagine if Donald Trump took that position? Would it take liberals even 30 seconds to denounce him as a racist? Yet, for Biden, liberals hailed this as a laudable moment of growth—Joe’s enlightenment. Here was a new Joe, a good Joe.

Well, Joe, you got their praise. But you also kissed goodbye the votes of millions of pro-lifers who might have considered voting for you. ... You gained nothing. You only lost—and at the price of many unborn human beings. Don’t doubt for a moment that your friends at Planned Parenthood will hold you to your promise if you make it to the Oval Office.
Worse, this could have been a moment for Biden to stand out as something closer to a respectable “moderate” among today’s Democrats. He blew it, choosing instead to capitulate to party extremists. Here was a chance to show some fortitude, some character, some backbone—to be a man with a chest who doesn’t get pushed around by hysterical abortion advocates. He let them bully him. What kind of moral leadership was that?

What an ideal moment that would have been for Joe Biden to man up, to not let the angry ladies of liberalism push him into not defending unborn babies. He will rue the day he cowered on the Hyde Amendment.
