PARTY PLATFORMS COMPARISON

Politicians increasingly vote in line with their party’s platform — 80% of the time over the last 30 years. Consequently, a party’s platform is a good indicator of how politicians from that party will vote. Link to this site's page   Party Platforms Comparison (or use the drop-down menu above) for the actual content from the Republican Party Platform and the Democratic Party Platform, side by side, so that you can compare the parties’ positions, issue by issue, as listed in the Table of Contents provided. December 14, 2020:  Savannah Morning News:
Group of Black pastors criticizes Senate candidate Raphael Warnock for his abortion stance

A group of 25 Black pastors from Georgia and surrounding states has sent an open letter to Georgia Democratic Senate runoff candidate the Rev. Raphael Warnock, criticizing Warnock’s   position on the issue, noting that abortion affects Black communities disproportionately and in their opinion, contradicts Christian teachings. The signers of the letter include Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King Jr. Link here for the complete letter as published on December 14 on the website of the Savannah Morning News: 25 Black Pastors' to Raphael Warnock re his abortion stance

Here is key content copied from this letter:

“We feel compelled to confront your most recent statements concerning abortion. You have gone on the record saying that you are a “ pro-choice pastor ” who will “always fight for reproductive justice.” You have publicly expressed your views that abortion is an exercise of “human agency and freedom” that is fully consistent with your role as a shepherd of God’s people. We believe these statements represent grave errors of judgment and a lapse in pastoral responsibility…”

"As a Christian pastor and as a Black leader, you have a duty to denounce the evil of abortion, which kills a disproportionate number of Black children. Your open advocacy of abortion is a scandal to the faith and to the Black community. Abortion is fundamentally in conflict with the plain reading of the Bible. The Bible clearly teaches that human life is created by God beginning at conception. As Psalm 139 proclaims: “You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am wonderfully and fearfully made.” What human being could possibly have the right to blot out an innocent life that God has wonderfully and fearfully made? Abortion prematurely thwarts God’s providential and loving plan for a promising human life. And by terminating an innocent unborn life in the womb, abortion directly violates the seventh commandment: “Thou shalt not kill.” God demands that every faithful Christian protect and uphold the sanctity of innocent human life, at every stage of life. Supporting abortion represents a serious abdication of and a transgression against that responsibility, just like the disrespect of the poor, the disabled, or the elderly. Couching abortion in the language of “reproductive justice” may be savvy marketing, but killing an innocent human life has nothing to do either with reproduction or with justice. Do American adults really need another public voice urging them to put their own short-term desires ahead of the needs of their children?"

"Pastor running for Senate: Abortion rights are 'consistent' with my beliefs as a minister"

This August 26, 2020 article states, "The pastor running for the U.S. Senate in Georgia claimed in a recent podcast interview that abortion is “consistent with” his beliefs as a minister and vowed to fight to keep it legal if he wins the election."

The article continues, quoting a tweet by Tony Dungy, hall-of-fame National Football League coach:  "Warnock's comment on Bryant's program drew the ire of at least one prominent African American Christian. "I’d like to know what book the candidate uses as (his) foundation for truth and (his) guiding principles?" Tony Dungy, hall-of-fame National Football League coach, wrote in a tweet. "It couldn’t be the Bible." ... Read Psalm 139..." * Dungy added. "If you believe the Bible is the word of [God] you can’t read this and conclude that God doesn’t view a baby in the womb as a life.**

* Psalm 139 states: "Lord..., you formed my inward parts ... in my mother's womb... My form was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret... Your eyes beheld  my unformed substance... In your book were written the days that were formed for me..." The inspired Psalmist stated what medical research has confirmed: A person's unique DNA is finalized at the very moment of conception and a person is created. Our Medical /Science - Life Before Birth page provides documentation of this fact.

** For documentation confirming the fact that a baby in the womb is a living person from the moment of conception, link to this article on the website of the Knights of Columbus: A Unique Person from Day One - at Conception (The authors of this article are DAVID A. PRENTICE, PH.D., an internationally known expert on bioethics, Vice President and Research Director for the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) and TARA SANDER LEE, PH.D., a scientist with 20 years’ experience in academic and clinical medicine, an associate scholar with CLI.)

JON OSSOFF ON ABORTION:

- against Georgia's May 2019 "Heartbeat Bill" that banned most abortions after six weeks:

Question: Keep abortions after 6 weeks legal or ban?
Ossoff: Keep them legal. "I will only vote to confirm federal judges who pledge to uphold Roe v. Wade." Will defend Planned Parenthood's "essential preventative and reproductive Health Care services."
"Jon will defend women's access to contraception and a woman's right to choose...  Planned Parenthood provides essential preventative and reproductive health care services like cancer screenings, STD testing and low-cost birth control to millions of American women. Jon will defend Planned Parenthood in Congress."  - Source: 2017 Georgia House campaign website, ElectJon.com , April 21, 2017

Perdue: Strongly Agree

Question topic: Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Perdue: Based on my faith, I have deeply held personal convictions that I share with a majority of Georgians. These principles shape my belief in the limited and clearly defined role of government. Additionally, there are certain issues on which I will not waver. I believe that we should promote a culture that values life and protects the innocent, especially the unborn. I also believe that we must protect traditional marriage, keeping it between one man and one woman.

"Contrary to what you might see in the media, not every strong American woman is a liberal," she said. "Many of us are conservative and proud of it."

Would support legislation to limit abortions

Anti-abortion groups have attacked Kemp's choice, painting Loeffler as a pro-abortion rights individual over her donations to an area hospital--which has not performed elective abortions and hasn't for at least a decade.
